    Get PDF
Many of the personal diagnostic systems mainly glucometers (for measuring glucose) contain a serial interface for PC connection. Through this interface it is possible to receive useful data that will be used mainly for an attending physician’s purpose to evaluate the treatment process over a long time period and to set down further treatment procedures. For purblind or sightless diabetics people it is impossible to read the current data showed on displays of the personal diagnostic systems. Those who are sightless need a help of another person at disposal when measuring. The newly designed unique electronic construction in conjunction with the personal diagnostic system enables a purblind or a sightless people to identify measured data and use them suitable for the further treatment processes. The purblind or sightless people will be able to perform selfmonitoring (observation of disease trend and a dosage adjustment by a person himself)

A model transformation framework to increase OCL usability

    Get PDF
The usability of a modeling language has a direct relationship with several factors of models constructed with the modeling language, such as time required and accuracy. Object Constraint Language (OCL) is the most prevalent language to document system constraints that are annotated in the Unified Modeling Language (UML). OCL is reputed as a modeling language with difficult syntax, and prior knowledge of OCL is needed to use the language. These obstacles result in the low usability of OCL. Therefore, the current research proposes a model to automatically transform system constraints formed in English sentences to OCL specifications. The proposed model is based on the Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) approach. The Linear Temporal Logic (LTL) properties of the proposed model are verified by the Maude model checker. To validate the proposed model and compare it with the existing work, the En2OCL (English2OCL) application is developed. This application is tested by three evaluation metrics: precision, recall, and f-measure. The En2OCL application is further compared with the NL2OCLviaSBVR application, which is the existing work on OCL generation from English sentences. The comparison shows a considerable improvement in precision, recall, and f-measure.Web of Science281261

Segmentation of articular cartilage and early osteoarthritis based on the fuzzy soft thresholding approach driven by modified evolutionary ABC optimization and local statistical aggregation

    Get PDF
Articular cartilage assessment, with the aim of the cartilage loss identification, is a crucial task for the clinical practice of orthopedics. Conventional software (SW) instruments allow for just a visualization of the knee structure, without post processing, offering objective cartilage modeling. In this paper, we propose the multiregional segmentation method, having ambitions to bring a mathematical model reflecting the physiological cartilage morphological structure and spots, corresponding with the early cartilage loss, which is poorly recognizable by the naked eye from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The proposed segmentation model is composed from two pixel's classification parts. Firstly, the image histogram is decomposed by using a sequence of the triangular fuzzy membership functions, when their localization is driven by the modified artificial bee colony (ABC) optimization algorithm, utilizing a random sequence of considered solutions based on the real cartilage features. In the second part of the segmentation model, the original pixel's membership in a respective segmentation class may be modified by using the local statistical aggregation, taking into account the spatial relationships regarding adjacent pixels. By this way, the image noise and artefacts, which are commonly presented in the MR images, may be identified and eliminated. This fact makes the model robust and sensitive with regards to distorting signals. We analyzed the proposed model on the 2D spatial MR image records. We show different MR clinical cases for the articular cartilage segmentation, with identification of the cartilage loss. In the final part of the analysis, we compared our model performance against the selected conventional methods in application on the MR image records being corrupted by additive image noise.Web of Science117art. no. 86

INFLUENCE OF THE USE OF GRAVITY SETS IN A PRESSURE VOLUMETRIC INFUSION PUMP WITH AN IMPACT ON THE ACCURACY OF INFUSION SOLUTION FLOWS

    Get PDF
The subject of the work was the experimental verification of the negative influence of gravity sets in a pressure volumetric infusion pump with an impact on the accuracy of infusion solution dosing. The quality criterion for gravity sets was the accuracy of the flow versus the reference set by the volumetric infusion pump. The solution consisted of 14-hour measurements with two types of gravity sets, Intrafix® Primeline sets were used as universal sets and Standardline IS‑103 gravity sets. The insulin pump flow rate was set at 300 ml/h and 50 ml/h, and the actual flow rate of the infusion solution was recorded every hour using a graduated cylinder. Used gravity sets were also processed by mechanical tests, unused sets were subjected to these tests and the obtained data were compared with each other. Experiments carried out showed that at the set flow rate of 300 ml/h, the flow error with the universal set was -3% and at a set flow rate of 50 ml/h the error was +2.3%. Flow accuracy using gravity sets was worse, a flow error of -7.2% was detected for a flow rate of 50 ml/h and a flow error of -7.7% was measured for 300 ml/h. The volumetric pump used declares a tolerated inaccuracy of ± 3% when used with standard infusion sets. Based on the data, it can be concluded that the replacement of set types has an influence on the dosage of infusion solutions

Review of processing pathological vectorcardiographic records for the detection of heart disease

    Get PDF
Vectorcardiography (VCG) is another useful method that provides us with useful spatial information about the electrical activity of the heart. The use of vectorcardiography in clinical practice is not common nowadays, mainly due to the well-established 12-lead ECG system. However, VCG leads can be derived from standard 12-lead ECG systems using mathematical transformations. These derived or directly measured VCG records have proven to be a useful tool for diagnosing various heart diseases such as myocardial infarction, ventricular hypertrophy, myocardial scars, long QT syndrome, etc., where standard ECG does not achieve reliable accuracy within automated detection. With the development of computer technology in recent years, vectorcardiography is beginning to come to the forefront again. In this review we highlight the analysis of VCG records within the extraction of functional parameters for the detection of heart disease. We focus on methods of processing VCG functionalities and their use in given pathologies. Improving or combining current or developing new advanced signal processing methods can contribute to better and earlier detection of heart disease. We also focus on the most commonly used methods to derive a VCG from 12-lead ECG.Web of Science13art. no. 85659

    Get PDF
For the retinal blood vessels segmentation, we used a method, which is based on the morphological operations. The output of this process is extracted retinal binary image, where is situated main blood vessels. In this paper is used dataset of images (2800 images) from device RetCam3. Before applying the image processing, it was selected 30 images with diagnosed pre-plus diseases, and it is divided into two groups with low contrast and good contrast images. In the next part of the analysis, it was analyzing and showing blood vessels with tortuosity. Tortuosity is a symptom of ROP (retinopathy of prematurity). The clinical physicians evaluate tortuosity by visual comparison of the retinal images images. For this reason, it was suggested model which can automatically indicate the tortuosity of the retinal blood vessels by setting a threshold of the blood vessels curvature
